Included controller cable doesn’t work

Just got the keymander and plugged in to Xbox series X but with the old one X controller. When I plug in the cable the controller vibrates but does not turn on and I can not access the keyboard and mouse. I have reset the console and I’ve downloaded the series x firmware.
